Halloween

Our classroom was filled with pumpkin themed activities this week.

The students continued identifying attributes by describing a pumpkin.  The class used words such smooth, bumpy, hard, cold, orange, and small.

The children also practiced counting up to five as they learned the poem "The Five Little Pumpkins" and played a pumpkin grid game where they rolled a die, counted the number of dots and covered that many pumpkins on their game sheet.

The sensory table was filled with black beans this week.  The children enjoyed finding Halloween surprises buried inside.  They also worked collaboratively to fill different sized pumpkins.

Other skills practiced this week were crayon grasp and listening skills, Halloween patterns, and building hand strength using play doh as the children made spider legs and eyes.

We also put on our scientist hats and conducted an experiment called "Rising Ghost".  The students watched as I placed a water bottle with vinegar on the table and then covered the bottle with a balloon filled with baking soda.  As the baking soda poured into the vinegar, bubbles formed and caused the balloon to inflate.  The children loved this!  We followed up with a discussion of how the air inside the bubbles filled the balloon.

Our week concluded with a Halloween parade and party.  The children all looked fantastic in their costumes!  Thank you again to all of the parents for your contributions and a special thank you to our room parents for coordinating the party and setting up a wonderful event.  The craft, game and snacks were perfect!  I hope everyone has a happy and safe Halloween!
