Happy Halloween!

Halloween week brought about excitement and new activities for learning.  We read several stories during Halloween week and sang some songs that practiced beginning sounds and counting.  One poem that we recited was the Five Little Pumpkins.  The children then practiced cutting, gluing counting and ordinal numbers to create the five little pumpkins sitting on a gate.

At the playdoh table, students used their creativity to make spiders.

The math center was a witch's brew.  The children took a recipe card and filled up their cauldron with the correct number of each item (eye balls, spiders, pumpkins, bones).  They then mixed the brew.

In the sensory table we had witch's potions.  The children enjoyed stirring, mixing and pouring the colored water.

The students practiced cutting and gluing skills while creating a spider hat.

We conducted an experiment called the Rising Ghost.  Using vinegar baking soda and a water bottle, we made a ghost rise up.  I first put baking soda into the balloon and vinegar in the water bottle.  Next, I attached the balloon to the top of the water bottle.  When the baking soda fell into the vinegar it created a bubbling reaction and the balloon filled up and the ghost rose into the air.  The children loved this and guessed that the air from the bubbles filled the balloon.  Great thinking!

In gym class the children went on a ghost hunt.  They had to scooter through a haunted house, crawl under "tree branches", balance on "rocks" over a swamp, crossed a bridge (balance beam) and then try to catch ghosts by throwing balls at them.  It was so much fun!

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped out with the Halloween parade and party.  The children had a blast!
