We had a wonderful day of celebrating today. The children all looked amazing in their costumes and really enjoyed seeing one another dressed up. We were able to do a parade outside for the other preschool classes before the rain came.
During our "party" the children had their special snacks- thank you for sending them in to school! They also did a Halloween scavenger hunt, which was a big hit, and played some games such as ring the witch's hat and bingo. Some children chose to make pool noodle monsters, while others decorated pumpkins with stickers.
The children also hammered golf tees into a pumpkin and did a science experiment with packing peanuts to make a ghost disappear.
This week during Fundations we learned about the letter H (for Halloween). The children practiced its sound and learned how to make it with wood pieces. We also did several activities to practice identifying rhymes.
Our math skills this week were counting and ordinal numbers. We started with Five Little Pumpkins and then ordered numbers. We also listened to The Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman on the white board and talked about the order in which the characters appeared in the story.
At the start of the week we studied pumpkins and talked about all of the parts of a pumpkin and their names. Then we tested some Fall items to see if they would sink or float. The children made predictions and then each dropped an item in the water. They switched our predictions on the chart, if needed. The big finale was a pumpkin! Ask your child whether a pumpkin floats or sinks!
The children practiced their cutting of circles and gluing by making a pumpkin.
